Lecture topic: Opening Remarks
I
want to welcome all of you to class, and let you know that I am happy you have
decided to enroll in this course. My goals for you are very straightforward,
and I believe you should adopt them as your goals. You should demonstrate
improvement in your writing, research, and documentation skills. With regard to
your writing skills your work should be progressively free of sentence level
errors that involve punctuation and grammar.
Work
closely with lecture 2, for it is a quick way to square your prose with the
style I am teaching, and it will lead to much higher grades. I will also spend
time in class covering this.
The
research and documentation part of this course simply means that for some of
the later assignments you will locate outside sources that relate to your
essays’ topics, and use MLA Style Guidelines to document them in your essays.
The research and documentation aspects of this course are quite important, for
1302 is the Temple College course that teaches students the fundamentals of
research and documentation.
Finally,
I look forward to working with you this semester, and please do not hesitate to
contact me with questions or concerns. My office location, phone, and hours are
on the course syllabus. Feel free to make an appointment in advance, or just
stop by without an appointment, but always try to bring a copy of your work in
progress.
