Prepare by reading the
short story, Miss Brill, by Katherine Mansfield, in
the fiction volume of Literature
Craft & Voice.
I suggest that you
read the story a number of times, and you should consider how, during this test,
you will compose a literary analysis drawing from your knowledge of the
literary devices/techniques (consider the list above) that writers use to
convey theme. For your essay, you will write and support a thesis statement
about the theme, and you should surely arrive to class on the day of the test
already knowing your thesis.
Consult The
Assignments Calendar section of the syllabus for the date/time of this test
takes place.
This is a 75 minute timed-examination.
