Prepare by reading
the poems, “My
Life Had Stood - a Loaded Gun,” by Emily
Dickinson, and “The Lonely
Wife,” by Amy Lowell, both of which we have read and had the
opportunity to discuss.
I suggest that you
read the poems a number of times, choose one, and consider how, during this
test, you will compose a literary analysis drawing from your knowledge of the
literary devices/techniques (consider the list above) that writers use to
convey theme. For your essay, you will write and support a thesis statement
about the theme, and you should surely arrive to class on the day of the test
already knowing your thesis.
Consult “The
Assignments Calendar” section of the syllabus for the date/time of this test
takes place.
This is a 75 minute
timed-examination.
